Zoho Books Accounting for UAE Businesses

ERPHUBs configures Zoho Books accounting for UAE businesses — FTA-compliant, bilingual Arabic-English invoicing, mainland and free zone setup, and AED multi-currency accounting. VAT return filing itself is a separate, dedicated service.

Overview

Built Around FTA Requirements From Day One

UAE businesses need tax invoices that satisfy Federal Tax Authority requirements — correct VAT treatment, TRN display and invoice sequencing — whether operating on the mainland or from a free zone. ERPHUBs configures Zoho Books to get this right from the first invoice, not after a compliance issue surfaces.

For ongoing accounting support, explore our Zoho Books accounting services. For software setup and workflow configuration, see Zoho Books implementation. VAT-ready records are included here, while return preparation and filing are handled separately through our UAE VAT Filing service.

In depth

A practical guide for United Arab Emirates businesses

Accounting for UAE businesses: mainland, free zone and branch structures

A UAE company can sit on the mainland, in one of dozens of free zones, or be a branch of a foreign parent. The structure decides which licence conditions apply, whether you are subject to VAT, whether you can qualify for the zero rate of corporate tax, and where your accounting records must be kept. Zoho Books is configured around those facts, not around a generic template.

We set up the chart of accounts in line with IFRS or IFRS for SMEs, with VAT accounts, intercompany accounts for group structures, and a clear separation between income that may be qualifying and income that may not. This pays off when the corporate tax return needs the split.

  • AED base currency with multi-currency invoicing and bank accounts
  • 5 percent VAT codes: standard, zero-rated, exempt and out of scope
  • Reverse charge accounts for imported services
  • Fixed asset register with depreciation by class
  • Audit-ready trial balance and notes for free zone and group reporting

What UAE law expects from your records

Both the VAT and corporate tax laws require businesses to keep accounting records, tax invoices and supporting documents for several years, commonly at least five, and for longer in some cases such as real estate and capital assets. Records must be accessible to the Federal Tax Authority on request, in Arabic or English.

Tax invoices must contain specific information, including the supplier's tax registration number, a sequential invoice number, and the VAT charged in AED. We configure invoice templates that satisfy these rules and keep an archive that can be exported for an audit.

Audit, financial statements and bank reconciliation

Many free zones require annual audited financial statements, and banks often ask for them. We deliver a reconciled ledger, a final trial balance, fixed asset and loan schedules, and a working paper file so an external auditor can complete the audit quickly.

Month by month, we reconcile bank accounts, review VAT control accounts against the FTA portal, and monitor receivables and payables. For owners who live abroad, we provide a short monthly management summary.

Yes. We map accounts, bring opening balances and open invoices, and run a parallel period before switching over.

Zoho Books supports multiple languages on documents. We configure bilingual invoices where customers or authorities need them.
